Lane Sends Two Swimmers to State Championship

November 17, 2012
By Lauren_Recchia

The Lane Tech Indians girls swim team will have two representatives in the state final swim meet this Saturday at Evanston Township High School.

The Indians came in fourth place overall in the sectional swim meet at Fenwick High School Saturday with 181 points, and will send juniors Megan Levelle and Jennifer O’Connell to the state championship. Levelle placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.87) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.15), while O’Connell placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.71) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.56).

“As a team, we felt pretty confident,” O’Connell said. “We had a few downfalls in our relays, but we went in there and I felt pretty good. It felt good to get two state times.”

O’Connell is thrilled that she and her teammate will be representing Lane Tech this weekend, and she knows there will be some fine-tuning done during the week in practice as the competition will be even tougher.

“Lots of starts and turns,” she said of what she and Levelle will be working on this week. “And just not getting nervous before our races. I think we do that and we overwhelm ourselves, and take our energy out on that instead of the race.”
