Hello, I hope you are well. We are in the midst of Holy Week. We have been worshiping together during the season of Lent, and now we are approaching the days to remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, his betrayal, his death, and his resurrection.
Life is very busy but I encourage you to take some time over the next few days to reflect upon the steadfast, faithful love of God expressed in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
As part of this reflection I hope you will join us for worship on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services are at 7pm. Easter service is at 10:15am. All the services are at Waters.
The Maundy Thursday service will be a time to reflect upon Jesus and the Last Supper by walking through the Passover Seder. Traditionally, the youngest child asks the father questions about the Passover seder, beginning with, Why is this night different from all other nights? This question encourages the gathering to discuss the Exodus story and the significance of the symbols in the meal. Our service will be a time to remember the story of God celebrated in the Passover and to see its fulfillment in the body and blood of Jesus.
The Good Friday Service is a service that remembers the crucifixion of Jesus. We consider his humiliation and sacrificial love along with the depth of our sin and rebellion. This somber service is ordered around readings that tell the story of betrayal, arrest, and death.
These two services lead to the glorious good news of Easter. Jesus has risen. He is the King over creation. Jesus and the grace of God, not sin and death, are the final words in our lives.
I pray that you will have a blessed Holy Week.
Thank you.
