A combative alderman, focussed on one issue, led to a divided community in the 46th Ward.
James Cappleman defeated Molly Phelan in the 46th Ward Tuesday, scoring 5,502 votes or 55.44 percent in the runoff. Cappleman and Phelan had been separated by just five votes following the February General Election.
The home base of Molly Phelan was hoping that she'd pull out a hard fought victory. Grim reality hit at about 8:15. Phelan had been beaten soundly.
