The North Park University Vikings tied Wheaton College 1-1 in the CCIW title match in Wheaton Friday.
The tie means Wheaton (15-5-3) received the automatic bid to the NCAA Division 3 soccer finals. NPU was admitted to the finals based on an at-large bid.
The Vikings had a 3-0 record against Wheaton going into the game. However the Vikings were unable to put Wheaton away even after a double overtime.
An unassisted shot by junior Robin Hals in the 39th minute gave NPU the hope of making it a 4-0 season against Wheaton. However, Josh Clark tied the game with a penalty kick for the Thunder.
Both teams found it difficult to create real chances in the overtime frames.
Penalty kicks awarded the win to Wheaton 4-1.
