Bell School girls basketball moved on defeating Suder 14-3 in game one and Von Humboldt 20-10 in game two today. The team is in single elimination play for the city championship.
The next step for the team is playing a regional championship game tomorrow at Bogan High School.
The Von Humboldt game may have been the more challenging to the team. Von Humboldt sported speed, weight, height and muscle. Bell had a deeper bench.
The match was a grinding challenge for the women, who were faced with a full-court press throughout the game. In low-scoring games such as this scoring on the foul is important.
Fortunately, the Bell women were able to settle down and take the lead early on fouls. That forced Von Humboldt to adopt a more physical style of play.
Bell forced Von Humboldt into a number of key turnovers. Von Humboldt settled down after the half, scoring almost immediately after the tip, but the rally faltered with Bell matching Von Humboldt point for point down to the end.
