The Berry United Methodist Church, 4754 N Leavitt, Chicago, raised about $1,000 towards the purchase of mosquito nets during the World Malaria Awareness Day Sunday. Pastor Sherrie Lowly said family nets cost about $10 each and have a service life of several years.

The church shot hoops after its Sunday services. Pastor Lowly said the effort was part of an effort by the United Methodist Church and the National Basketball Association.
