A citywide shortage of interest in the Local School Council elections, with just 1,773 candidate filings for 4,904 openings persuaded Chicago Public Schools officials to extend the deadline for candidate filings.
Figures released to The Bulldog showed no parents running in Amundsen, Audubon, Blaine, Stockton, Stockton Branch or Courtenay schools as of Wed, Mar 7.
The Bulldog has heard from candidates that updates will show candidates for some of those schools. In addition, the CPS spreadsheet indicates no community members filing for Audubon, Blaine, McPherson, Stockton, Stockton Branch or Courtenay.
Trumbull had the most interest in the LSC election, with 12 parents and 4 community members contesting the eight openings. Only Northside Prep and Von Stueben reported on Wednesday they might feature contested elections.
Bateman, Hibbard, Lake View and Roosevelt reported they may have contested elections for the community representative seats.
Judges are also in short supply for the election. Only 21 judges have applied to work the 38 schools.
The overall filing rate for parents seats in schools serving Ravenswood students was 47.3 percent versus 36.3 percent for the city overall. Community interest in Ravenswood schools shows a fill rate of 55.4 percent versus 37.6 percent for the city overall.
