Think PINK; House Beautiful and RAW celebrate spring

February 18, 2011
By Mary Catherine Campbell

The Ravenswood Art Walk will host PinkWalk, a pink-themed art walk Feb 27, Noon – 5P.

The event, held in conjunction with House Beautiful Magazine, will feature art from local artists displayed in venues along the Ravenswood Ave corridor.

The free event will celebrate the House Beautiful spring color issue “The Power of Pink.” PinkWalk will feature pink-themed artwork from local artists displayed in venues around the Ravenswood area, giveaways and other prizes. A portion of the proceeds from any artwork sold will be donated to the Ravenswood Elementary School art program.

“We hope to give artists the opportunity to produce, show and sell their work and also to promote area businesses and get people into the Ravenswood corridor,” said Ravenswood Art Walk Vice President Bill Moran.

Throughout the day, House Beautiful will distribute pink designer chairs on sidewalks around the Ravenswood area. The chairs, which are valued between $30 and $3,000, will be free to take by anyone who locates them. House Beautiful will tweet the locations of the chairs during the course of the day and residents are encouraged to be on the lookout for chairs in your area. The magazine will also distribute chairs around the Chicago loop area on Saturday, February 26.

Local artists are invited to submit pink-themed artwork. Artists have the opportunity not only to show their art to the Chicago community but can also showcase their work nationally. House Beautiful will feature work by four winning local artists in their upcoming June issue.

“Using the theme of pink allows artists to create a fun vibrant exciting work of art that is outside their norm,” Moran said.

A panel of judges will select the winners during the PinkWalk. Please click here if you would like to register as an artist for the Ravenswood PinkWalk. Registration ends on Sunday, February 20 at 11:59 p.m.

As a professional fine artists who has maintained a painting studio in the corridor for over 15 years, I am super excited to participate in the Ravenswoood Pink Walk. I posted the event on my sites home page.
