Two races, road construction the challenge to drivers this weekend

April 23, 2010
By Patrick Boylan

Two 5K races and continuing sewer construction will be challenging drivers this weekend. The 5K Race to Wrigley will require vehicle owners to remove cars along its early Saturday course, mainly on Ravenswood Ave., Irving Park Rd., Clark St. and Addison St.

On Sunday the Ravenswood Run, a 5K that benefits local food pantries and relief efforts and health clinics in Lake View and Amundsen High Schools will be run in Old Ravenswood. It will cross through the construction zone on Montrose at one point. It affects Hermitage, Paulina, Wilson, Leland, Damen and Leavitt streets for the most part.

Vehicle owners should move their cars off these streets for the Saturday or Sunday morning runs as needed.

The city says it will start towing vehicles parked on the affected streets at 5 AM. The events should conclude by 11 AM.

The sewer project on Montrose continues, with traffic diverted in both directions. South-bound Ashland has also been affected for the past few days and that should continue for the short-term.

Another construction projects on California at Montrose is getting underway.

The bottom line is to avoid Montrose and give yourself extra time if you need to go south on Ashland through Montrose.

There is no Cubs traffic this weekend.
