Owners of a condominium complex located near the Union Pacific/ Metra North railroad are considering options to stop the bridge reconstruction project.
Condo owner Shira Hammann told WBBM Newsradio 780′s Bob Roberts a plan by the railroad meant a 20 foot retaining wall would go up around the condo complex.
“We were brought in a year ago, when the plans were completely different and they didn’t involving moving the tracks 20 feet closer to our homes,” she told WBBM.
The plans for bridge work were changed over the winter when riders of the line complained about a schedule change. The railroad responded with a plan that will create an embankment capable of holding additional tracks. The changes to the plan added $40 million to the cost of the project.
