In a letter to the Chicago Tribune Dr. Robert N Bitter, the President of the Illinois Dental Society, took issue with proposed cuts to optional dental programs he said Ill. Sen. Heather Steans had characterized as non-essential.
“There is an undeniable association between overall health and dental health. Studies show that poor oral health leads to heart disease, stroke, oral cancer, diabetes and pre-term labor,” he writes. “Illinois is not doing its job to ensure hard working families and the underserved have access to quality dental care.”
