The ‘Hogs and the Wolves met up this weekend for a back-to-back set of games hosted in Rockford. The IceHogs fought hard to win on Friday night, while the Wolves’ bark was all bite, taking Saturday night’s game with a snarl. It appears that old rivalry that was born back in that very first season the IceHogs played in the AHL is back with a vengeance. Tempers rose, fists flew and the fans cheered loudly.
Friday night’s game saw the long awaited return of IceHogs’ netminder Alexander Salak. Salak has been sidelined with a lower body injury since early December. Salak seemed to handle anything thrown at him, including a few players that fell into the crease.
Saturday night brought entirely different vibe to the BMO Harris Bank Centre. In front of a sell out crowd of 6164, the IceHogs lost to the Wolves 6-2. The night was filled with scrums, a line brawl and two fights.
With the return of Salak to Rockford’s roster, that meant that they had one too many goalies and someone had to go. Alec Richards apparently was the odd man out and was reassigned to the Toledo Walleyes.
Next home game for the IceHogs is this upcoming Wednesday February 15th @ 7:05pm at the BMO Harris Bank Centre in Rockford.
