The State’s Attorney of Cook County announced that it has convicted Ravenswood resident Alan Donald Wyman in a 2006 sexual assault that received city-wide media coverage at the time.

Wyman, a resident of the 4300 block of North Western Ave., was convicted of raping a 46-year-old woman he lured into his apartment. According to testimony, he held her for four days in a “torture chamber.” He released her after a friend of Wyman’s discovered the woman being held court records say.
The 56-year-old Wyman is still being held for trial in two other cases of sexual assault, the states attorney said. The states attorney would not comment on those cases or further discuss the concluded case citing the continuing prosecution of Wyman.
Cook County States Attorney Spokesman Andy Conklin told the Bulldog Wyman faces 12 to 60 years in sentencing for just this case. In addition, because of the nature of the crimes, Wyman will have to register as a sexual offender if he is released. Conklin said it was unlikely the public would be allowed to testify during sentencing.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Wyman is linked to the sexual assault of a 20-year-old victim in August 2005 by DNA evidence. He has also been charged with repeatedly raping a 34-year-old victim, who he held in his apartment in August 2006.
Conklin told the Bulldog the other two victims were women Wyman lured off the street, in one case with a job offer.

There have been many things said of this case in the last few days. This is one thing that may have gone without notice, the victim in this case, not only knew her assailant but had had sex with him in the past. Years ago this brave woman would have at the very least have been discouraged from bring charges and most likely would have had her entire sexual past not just her prior relationship with Wyman brought up at trial. At last things have changed, this conviction would have been impossible just a few years ago when rape victims were often put on trial them selves as much as their attackers.
Thank God some things have truly changed.
