Severe weather: trees down, power out in parts of Ravenswood

June 22, 2011
By Jane Rickard

A passing frontal system brought severe weather including high winds at about 9P to the Ravenswood neighborhood.

Crews from Commonwealth Edison could be seen working the Lake View township area. Trees littered cars and sidewalks in the Horner Park neighborhood this evening.

More than 10,000 customers were reported to still be without power in the Chicago North area, according to data on the Commonwealth Edison web site at 11P.

The North Park University weather station reports gusts of up to about 35 mph starting at about 9P and ending sometime around 9:30P. The Rogers Park weather station reported similar data, with wind gusts up to 25 mph starting about 9P.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District noted a possible Combined Sewer Overflow event today on the North Branch of the Chicago River, including the part of the waterway running along the western boundary of the neighborhood..
