Netminder Ben Bishop is the reason the Peoria Rivermen successfully shut out the Rockford IceHogs last night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Bishop’s efforts were awarded with the #1 Star of the Game and AHL’s #1 Star of the Night. Not too bad for a goalie playing while feeling under the weather. Bishop took a off ice break of a little under 9 minutes in the 2nd frame, having Jake Allen step in to cover the crease while he went to the locker room.
Now, don’t think Rockford just rolled over and let Peoria win, because that’s not the case at all. Rockford seemed to throw everything they had at Bishop, but they still couldn’t put the proverbial biscut in the basket. SOG for the evening tell it all…Rockford had 42 while Peoria had 13. As the score shows, it only takes one puck finding the back of the net to win a game. Peoria’s Anthony Peluso was credited with that winning goal.
The fans Wednesday night were treated to a fight right at the start of the game, as Rockford’s Brandon Bollig and Peoria’s Anthony Peluso dropped gloves as the first puck of the night was dropped. The fight seemed evenly matched and ended in a draw.
The IceHogs hit the road for a 3 game road trip, returning home on February 25th against the Milwaukee Admirals. It’s Sock Monkey Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center, with the first 1500 fans entering the arena receiving a Sock Monkey.
